By formal invitation from a friend, Shafik Gabr,  Chairman & Managing Director of *ARTOC Group for
Investment and Development, I attended a U.N. sponsored event: "Welcome to Gulu".  This invitation only,
gala benefit and art sale was held in the Delegate Dining Room  at the U.N. on May 12, 2009. I have been
asked via formal request from the Project Director Simone Monasebian, Chief of the New York Office,
U.N.O.D.C. (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime)  if St.Thomas USVI would be interested in hosting 
the same event, "WELCOME TO GULU, ST.THOMAS" which will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2009. 
"Welcome to Gulu" is a unique art event benefiting and raising money for children in Uganda. For years
these children were subjected to the horrors of rape, human trafficking, child soldiering etc. The idea of helping
these children through art therapy came about when renowned artist and U.N. Goodwill Ambassador,
Ross Bleckner spent time in Uganda, and taught the children to create their own paintings, yielding
extraordinary results. The 200 plus paintings were for sale at the event and proceeds from sales of the paintings
go to help the Ugandan children.  We will be offering a limited number of corporate sponsorships for this event.
